Bearing One Another In Love
How are you doing today? I hope it finds you rested and ready for a new week. Enjoy this week’s devotional message from Ephesians.
We are created in God's image, and one of the implications is that we are relational beings. We were not created to be lone rangers, so we are called to live in a community that can be as small as a close-knit family, a workplace, a local church, or as big as a province.
Addressing the body of Christ (the church) at Ephesus, Paul encourages believers to live a life that matches their calling as followers of Christ. He goes ahead and gives them some practical ways they should apply that. As we already know, the devil's mission is to kill, steal and destroy, and he is there to steal peace and harmony in the family, which is the basic unit of the body of God. Since the Fall of man, the human tendency has been to find fault with the other person and shift blame.
The family is the best place to live out our Christian values and preach the Gospel, not only in words but in practice, which is best tested during adversity. Paul is reminding us to be keen on nurturing our family relationships. Misunderstandings, disagreement, and disappointment will always be there, but we are called to walk in humility, gentleness, patience, and love as family members. That is a mark of spiritual maturity!
This calls for commitment and intentionality. Just like a physical workout, it requires consistency. Paul urges the church to build healthy relationships by addressing the church in Rome. He says, "Therefore, let us then definitely aim for and eagerly pursue what makes for harmony and mutual upbuilding (edification and development) of one another (Rom.14:19 AMP).
We pray that each of us commits to making peace with each other, especially at the family level, by exploring ways to keep us together as a family because lack of family unity is the cause of many evils in society.
Let us learn to forgive each other and promote unity. It might not be easy, but God's grace and strength are available to make it happen, and it is his perfect will for us to walk in love and forgiveness.
Study Verse: As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.
Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Ephesians 4:1-2
Shalom! Peace be with you all!
